As part of careers week, we were lucky to have a special visit in our class from Nurse Jade. She brought her bag of equipment and spoke to the children about her role as a nurse. She then discussed with the children her journey to becoming a nurse, going to college and then university. The children had lots of fun and found it very interesting using the equipment and asked lots of questions.
This week, we have been learning about different careers on the lead up to World Book Day. Today we had a visit from a nurse. It was really exciting. She spoke to us about her job, showed us her equipment and let us ask her lots of questions. We learnt so much about being a nurse and some of us decided that we wanted to be nurses or doctors when we are older.
Year 6 were lucky to have an online call with a Digital Manager from the RNLI. She was able to talk about her role, the role of the RNLI, and how we could find ourselves in a similar career. The children were able to ask questions about her career such as: What subjects should I focus on to have a career like yours? What’s the most interesting part of your job?
As part of our Careers week, we received videos from a range of people working in many diverse roles. This week is St. Luke’s careers week. The school community have pulled together to try and provide as many opportunities for our children to discover the roles they could hold in the future, and how our curriculum subjects can support and inspire them. As part of Careers week, we were lucky to have a visit from PC Partington, an experienced police dog handler, who brought his dogs into school to talk to the children about his role in the police. We were able to discuss the work he carries out across a range of situations and how we could find a career within the police that could suit our skills and interests.

This week for careers week we have linked our English lessons with our history topic of ‘Changing Britain’. We have investigated the life of a local hero, Emmeline Pankhurst. The children have had brilliant discussions about the impact Emmeline’s actions have had on Britain and future generations of women and men, especially in terms of careers and jobs. Year 2 Ash had lots of fabulous fun learning about habitats in forest school yesterday to link with our science topic. They hunted around for our Animals of the world cards and worked in pairs to pin them onto the correct habitat. The children then worked in small groups making their own habitats using natural resources. They also had some time to explore and play some games at the end.
