Installation art

This half term we’re learning about installation art. During todays lesson we investigated the explosive artwork of Cai Guo-Qiang. We looked at the techniques used to create the explosive effects he used and created our own scaled down version of an art installation. Life processes

This half term for Science we are learning about habitats. For our first lesson we looked at the seven different life processes. We had lots of fun acting out these processes to help us to remember the correct names. We used MRS NERG – Movement, respiration, sensitivity, nutrition, excretion, reproduction and growth. Dribbling skills

This half term Juniper are learning to play Hockey. This afternoon we have learnt how to hold the hockey stick correctly and dribble with the ball. We had a go at dribbling and changing direction, as well as sending and returning the ball to each others hockey stick.

Year 1 Forest School

Today Year 1 Willows had lots of fun recreating the story of Palm Sunday which they have been learning about in class. They acted it out and got very messy painting different scenes with mud. We also made Lent promises on leaves and did some exploring.

Taste Test;!

Today we started our new Design Technology topic- adapting recipe. our focus is biscuits- the best topic! During todays lesson we tried and tested some existing biscuits. e We focused on brand, type, taste, appearance, packaging, target audience and texture. of course we really enjoyed this lesson! This will help us create our own biscuits and packaging this half term.

Finding the perimeter

This week during our maths lessons we have been finding the perimeter of squares, rectangles and rectilinear shapes. We have been practicing using a ruler to measure the length and weight. The children have worked hard to add the larger numbers together or use different methods to fund the end products. On Friday we had a practical lesson using Lego. Using the Lego we created all 3 different shapes and calculated our own perimeters!

The Three Little Pigs Houses

This week we have been reading the ‘Three Little Pigs’. This afternoon, we used different materials to try and make the sturdiest house for the pigs. We talked about the properties of the different materials, chose our materials carefully and then built our houses. Mrs Greenwood was the Big Bad Wolf and used her hairdryer to try and blow our houses down! We found that the wooden blocks were the sturdiest material for the houses.

Taste a Rainbow

This half-term, year are learning about being healthy in our Learning for Life lessons and our working our way to making a smoothie in D&T. This afternoon, we learnt about the 5 main food groups, we learnt how to distinguish between fruits and vegetables, and tasted a selection of fruits and vegetables.
