Year 6 were visited by a fashion designer working for Under Armour. She talked about how textiles and computing helped her in her career, with textiles being the key subject to choose. We looked at how football kits and other apparel are designed specifically around the team and club colours and values.
Year 6 looked at what needs to be included in a high-quality CV and covering letter. They researched the skills and qualities they would need for a role they would like to hold in the future, writing a CV and covering letter to apply for an apprenticeship in that industry.
As part of our World Book Day and Careers Week celebrations, the children and staff at St. Luke’s all came dressed as what they wanted to be in the future. From doctors to dentists, pilots to rappers, Year 6 looked fantastic!

To start off our careers week in school as part of World Book Day, we had a visit from PC Partington and one of his colleagues. They are police dog handlers and they brought some of their police dogs with them. St Luke’s Year 5/6 mixed basketball team managed to finish 3rd. 3 teams were level on points after the competition, including St. Luke’s, who finished 3rd on baskets scored. Well done everyone that competed.

Today, we started our celebrations for World Book Day. Our focus this year is on ‘Careers’. Year 6 were honoured to have Mr Partington, a dog handler in the police, come to visit our class with his working dogs. He spoke to the classes about becoming a police officer and how become a specialist dog handler. The children thoroughly enjoyed the session this morning – thank you!
