Lizzifly in a quest for Paradise

A group of children were very lucky to work with Mrs Weatherhead, who is the author of ‘Lizzifly in a quest for paradise, last week. These session included: dancing to warm up, performing, playing musical instruments, writing their own poems , writing, answering comprehension questions and remembering facts and much more. They all had lots of fun and the adults were really impressed with what they were able to produce. Well done Year 4!  

Art Week- Pointillism

This week we have been celebrating Art Week. We have been looking at the technique pointillism and studying the artist Henri Edmond Cross.  We looked at different pieces of art and chose our favourite one to recreate using paint and cotton buds to create a mood board. We then studied Henri Edmond Cross’ boat paintings and recreated our own. 

3D shapes

We explored the properties of 3D shapes using cocktails sticks and marshmallows to help us answer the questions in our power maths book. We made cuboids and square and triangular based pyramids.

Springfield Park Bees

Year 5 have had a great day at Springfield Park today. We started the day in the flower garden, studying some of the wild flowers. We also found some wildflower seeds to bring back to school and plant. We then worked in teams to do some orienteering around the park and learnt lots of interesting facts about bees at each stop. Imagine That!

Year 2 had an amazing time on their school trip to ‘Imagine That’ today. We made slime, made bath bombs, painted magnets and watched science shows, as well as exploring and playing in the numerous areas. The staff were so impressed with the amazing behaviour shown by the children. They had a fantastic day, which was a well-deserved treat after working so hard all year.  

Reception-Year 1 Transition Day

Today, the Reception children had their transition day in their new classrooms with their new teachers. After having circle time, in which we got to know each other, we then read the story ‘The Cautious caterpillar’ which was about a caterpillar who was very nervous and feeling a little bit sad about the changes he was going to make to become a butterfly, but once he had become a butterfly, he really loved those changes. Butterflies

This half term we have been looking after our own butterflies. A parcel arrived in Reception and we were very excited. When we opened it, there was tiny little caterpillars inside it. We looked after them and gave them some food. Then they became a lot bigger! After a couple of weeks, the caterpillars went into a chrysalis. Environment and Recycling

This afternoon, Year 5 participated in a lesson – ‘The environment and Recycling’ – which was delivered by Nigel Goulding from Rochdale Borough Council. Children were able to learn and understand all about the damage humans cause to the environment. Nigel also explained how we can help by introducing the 4R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover.).
