NSPCC PANTS

This week all classes took part in the NSPCC PANTS lesson. During these discussions we teach our pupils the following important safety skills without giving explicit information or telling scary stories. Shared lunch

Pocahontas

This week we have been learning about Pocahontas in our computing lesson.  In computing our unit is called ‘Effective searching’ so we have been using the internet to search for facts about Pocahontas. We worked really well together to complete the quiz questions about Pocahontas’ life.

Water cycle models

During English lessons, we are writing our own guided tours all about water. Today we looked at the water cycle and created our own models. We included key words such as – evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection. We have placed our water cycles on the window and will be looking at them through out the week.

Transparent, translucent or opaque?

During science this week, we carried out an investigation to see which materials let light through. We tested different materials at a set distance from a torch. After discussion of their findings, the children sorted the materials into transparent, translucent and opaque. We then looked at three images connected to light. The silly sentence game

In both English and Grammar lessons, Year 2 have been learning verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs and how to write expanded noun phrase. In Grammar this week, we consolidated our learning by playing the silly sentence game. We rolled a dice to pick a noun, adjective, verb and adverb, then we had to create our own silly sentences using these.

Smoothie Tasting

This week we have been learning about being healthy eating. We have researched and discussed foods which are healthy and unhealthy for us. We need to eat lots of fruit and vegetables to keep our bodies healthy. So this afternoon we have been taste testing smoothies. Smoothie tasting

This week we have been learning about foods that are healthy and unhealthy for us. This afternoon we have taste tested different healthy smoothies. We read the ingredients and decided whether they would be healthy for our bodies. We counted how many children liked each smoothie. We liked the strawberry and banana smoothie and the mango and passion fruit smoothie the best. They were delicious! We then designed our own smoothies during choosing time.

Humanism

Year 6 were very lucky today to have a visit today from a Humanist, Kevin. Focusing on our topic in RE at the moment is, ‘What matters most to Christians and Humanists?’ Kevin explained what a Humanist is and what they believe in.
