This half term, in RE, we are learning about sacred places, this week we were looking at places that are sacred to Christians and so we visited St Lukes church. It was lovely to be able to identify objects we have been learning about in the church. We had lots of fun exploring the church and completing Reverend Kirsty’s quiz and found out lots of new facts.
why and how does heat transfer through a solid? During this lesson, the children acted out solids, liquids and gases when heat had been applied. In a solid, the particles vibrate quicker and heat energy is passed between each particle, through a chain or particles and eventually through the whole object. This is called conduction. The children then watched and observed how heat transfers through a knife quickly and easily over time.
Some of our Year 2 children have completed the phonics programme and are now taking part in daily Guided Reading sessions. During reflective Friday, we listened to the story ‘Jesus calms the storm’. Willows came up with some fantastic answers about who was on the boat and what Jesus did to calm the storm. We talked about what we could do if we felt as though we were ‘in a storm’ and which trusted adults we could turn to for support and advice.
Children loved maths this week. They used cubes to represent numbers and using symbols to show more and less than. Well done Oaks.
In this lesson, we looked at how different sounds are produced- by plucking, blowing or striking. We then created our own instrument using a tissue box, 4 elastic bands of different thickness, lolly sticks and a roll holder. We made predictions and then tested them out. This afternoon Year 5 worked well in teams to create some fantastic shelters. We talked about what would make a good shelter and how important team work is. We also talked about what we could do to resolve a problem. We were very impressed with how they worked cooperatively. Children loved gardening club today and enjoyed researching which plants are able to grow in winter conditions. We then went up to the garden and tidied the garden.
