This week we have been reading the book ‘Supertato’. The evil pea has been causing havoc in our classroom, trapping vegetables and stealing things! We created super veggies to save the day. The children chose their resources carefully, creating capes and different body parts for their superheroes.
Today we have been working on our dividing skills. We have been using counters to help us divide numbers which aren’t in our times tables. Here are some pictures of our learning.
As part of our Science topic , Heat, we looked at carrying out investigations to show the process of thermal equilibrium. We placed our hands in both ice water and warm water. Then, after 1 minute, we transferred our hands to a tray with room temperature water. We found that the hand which had been in the cold water, now felt hot, and the hand that had been in the warm water, now felt cold. Read more

This half term year 5 have been learning about Installation Art and about the work of artist Cai Guo-Qiang; considering the display space and scale of an artwork; creating a scaled-down version of an installation similar to Guo-Qiang’s gunpowder drawings. The children have really enjoyed exploring with everyday objects to create amazing installation artwork, considering how ordinary spaces can be transformed and trying alternative solutions as they construct their artwork.
Year 6 have been exploring the topic ‘heat’ in science. We have discussed key vocabulary linked to our topic and managed to understand thermal equilibrium (when heat is spread evenly between 2 or more objects). In art this half term Year 5 have been learning about installation art. We have looked at work from artists around the world and how they use unusual methods to create art. Children created their own piece of installation art in a box using stencils and explosive paint techniques.
