As part of our Science topic , Heat, we looked at carrying out investigations to show the process of thermal equilibrium.

We placed our hands in both ice water and warm water. Then, after 1 minute, we transferred our hands to a tray with room temperature water.

We found that the hand which had been in the cold water, now felt hot, and the hand that had been in the warm water, now felt cold.

This is because when we describe things as hot or cold, we mean they seem hot or cold to us as they are hotter or colder than we are.

We also discovered that two temperatures will eventually balance, the warmer temperature moving to the colder temperature. This is called thermal equilibrium.
