British science week

This week we have been doing lots of investigations. Our first experiment was to investigate how the level of water in a glass affects the sound made when tapping the glass with a pencil. We filled the glasses with different amounts of water and we had to find out how full the glass must be to make a high pitched sound or low pitched sound. Our second experiment we went on a sound walk and Read more

We have also been busy planting beanstalks in pots with castles and grass heads. Read more

British Science Week

The children carried out an experiment to find out if different amounts of water in glasses made different sounds. Some made high pitched sounds and some made lower pitched sounds…but how did the amount of water in them affect the pitch? We came to the conclusion that a glass with a lower amount of water in it will Read more

Herbal remedies for the Black Death

This afternoon, Year 5 have independently researched some of the cures that medieval doctors used to cure the Black Death. We compared their methods to the work of doctors and scientists today and realised how much we have progressed! We then explored the properties of herbs and wrote some fantastic information texts. Finally, we worked in pairs to create our own herbal remedies.

Hand washing

We talked about the importance of hand washing today. Some adults and children used paint to represent germs because they ‘hadn’t washed their hands’. We played a clap and high 5 game where each child ended up with some blue paint on their hands. This showed how much the germs spread and how quickly it spread. In the end we all had blue hands! We learnt how to wash our hands properly using the NHS Read more
