We had a lovely morning in Maths! We just started ‘subtraction’ and used every day word problems to solve the calculations. For example, Mrs Nuttall had 10 bananas and she ate 2. How many did she have left? Putting the calculations into real life problems help the children to understand what ‘subtraction’ means.
We have had lots of fun this afternoon looking at different artefacts from the past. First we had a guess what we thought each object was for. This morning, we were very excited to see Monty’s mum come into class to read us a story. Everyone couldn’t believe the story was about Monty. Thank you very much for coming in and reading to us. We can’t wait to find out who is coming in next week!
In our topic lessons we have been looking at food groups and healthy eating. To support us in our learning we have had visitors in for the last two Fridays. We spent the first half of the session outside doing sports games for exercise and the second half inside learning about the importance of healthy eating, exercise and cleaning our teeth.
Year 5 used their maths skills to complete a table containing the size of the planets and their distances from the sun. We quickly realised that we wouldn’t be able to measure these out in the classroom so we scaled the measurements down. This morning Year 5 were lucky enough to have a visitor come in to class to carry out some exciting investigations. We learnt how to be safe with lots of different materials and completed challenges to sort and observe the materials.

Wow! Last week Hawthorn spoke in French to ask others if they had any pets and they were also able to reply in French, they used the information that they gathered to create a bar model. This week the children learnt how to say what pet they have and also how to tell someone the name of their pet. They were also able to English sentences about pets into French today.
