Rhythm Stick lesson

This afternoon we have been learning about rhythms in our music lesson. We began our lesson singing our hello song and clapping along. Miss Taylor then gave us all a set of rhythm sticks and we played them in time to our favourite food. We like different types of food like chicken nuggets, chocolate and a sandwich. We then had shake, tappety and scrape instruments and had to listen carefully for our turn. The shake Read more

Plant studies in year 5

This afternoon, year 5 worked in Kaden’s garden finding out about the roles of different parts of a flower. We then studied the flowers in the garden to see if we could find the different parts. Back in class, we carefully dissected some flowers and managed to find the anther, filament, pollen tube, stamen, ovary and petals. Tomorrow, we will be practicing writing complex sentences about plant reproduction.

Books for our English over this year.

We have had some parents asking for a list of books we are going to be looking at over the year. These books support our English and our topic lessons so please, if you can nip to the library to have a look at them, that would be brilliant!   Autumn 1 – Meerkat Mail Autumn 2 – Leaf Man Spring 1 – Little Red Riding Hood Spring 2 – The Three Little Pigs Summer Read more

Letters from the Lighthouse

As part of our WW2 topic, we have been studying the book ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’.   We looked at writing newspaper reports based on an air raid that the two main characters, Olive and Cliffe, found themselves caught up in whilst visiting the theatre. After reporting on the event, we also got the chance to visit the immersive room to see what it would have been like during this air raid. We then rewrote Read more

Our first library visit 📚

On Monday, we went on our first visit to the library. We talked about how we were going to walk up to the library and how to keep safe. It was really important to walk sensibly and listen to our teacher and the other adults who came with us. When we had safely arrived at the library, we had a quick look around. We then went into the children’s section and Miss Longmire explained how Read more

Year 5 Library visit

This afternoon, Year 5 walked to Heywood Library and enjoyed exploring the books and finding out more about what the library has to offer. Each child chose a book and were all engrossed in the first few pages before we had to set off back to school. We hope this passion for reading will continue at home.

Organic remains excavation 💩

This afternoon Year 3 were discovering what early humans used to eat. As we have discussed as a class, there is no written evidence of the Stone Age so we thought about how we could possibly find out what somebody had eaten. Year 3 guessed correctly. We had to look at their poo! We used lolly sticks to carefully excavate and take notes of what was found. This included seeds, nuts, corn, barley and fish Read more

Watch out for the Demon Dentist

Maple are currently reading ‘The Demon Dentist’ as our daily class read. The children can’t wait to hear, at the end of the day, what is going to happen next. They are particularly interested in finding out more about ‘Miss Root’ who they suspect is trying to rot the school children’s teeth on purpose! One child in Maple is so intrigued by this character that they asked Mrs Grindrod if the dental therapist that came Read more

Meerkat Mail

It was a lovely start to our Monday morning. We read Meerkat Mail in pairs and as a class and looked at the different postcards within this book. Some children found it funny, some children related to the main character, Sunny. Working in pairs was great because it gave us opportunities to talk to our partners about what we liked and what we disliked. We expressed our opinion on whether we liked the story or Read more
