Year 5 Pollination

This afternoon, we enjoyed carrying out a practical activity to demonstrate how plants are pollinated by insects. First the children drew a brightly coloured flower to attract insects. I then gave each child some nectar (cheese puffs). The class were transformed into bees and ate the delicious nectar. Persuasion

Maple have been investigating the shape of a persuasive letter this morning. We worked with our talk partners to identify the key features of a persuasive text. We then matched up each example against the feature. Well done Maple. I look forward to reading some of your letters and finding out how persuasive you can be!

3D modelling in Year 5

In computing this week, we enjoyed exploring 2 design and make software. We practised using different tools to create 3D houses and vehicles. Next week, we will use these skills to create our final product of food packaging, which links to our topic.  

Our Favourite Books

Last week, we all brought our favourite book from home into school. It has taken us a very long time but we have managed to read everyone’s favourite book, discussed the story and why they enjoy it so much. Maple’s Library Visit

This afternoon Maple visited Heywood library. All the children were really eager to get to the library and choose a book. Before our visit we discussed favourite authors and topics that we were interested in. Once at the library, everyone was busy selecting a book to bring back to school. We all cannot wait to visit again in 3 weeks time and choose some more exciting books to read!

Fun with reading

Ash have been excited to start our new reading challenge, all they need to do is read at least 3 times a week and change their books Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
