Flying a kite for Eco week! 🔸🔷🔶🔹

This week has been eco week at St Luke’s. We have talked about what is spoiling our world and what we can do to help this and what we can do to help create an eco friendly school. This links with our RE in which we are learning about the creation story. We began the week by planting parsnips in Kaydens garden which we will harvest and use in the kitchen. Later in the week, Read more

Investigating Bubbles!

This afternoon Year 4 enjoyed investigating the properties of bubbles. At the start of the lesson the children generated lots of scientific questions that they wanted to investigate. Some of these included: Are bubbles a solid, liquid or a gas? Why do bubbles burst? Can you hold a bubble? Why are bubbles round? Why do bubbles float? We then did lots of investigating and figured out the answers to our questions.

Labeling parts of a flower

Today we looked at and labeled the different parts of a flower. We learnt all about the functions of each part and why they are important. We also watched a very funny video about a lady that didn’t know how to look after the flowers in her house. She put one in sand instead of soil as she thought it needed a holiday! We found this very funny.

Recycled Bottles

For the second part of Eco Week we have been recycling our plastic bottles that we use at home. We brought them to school and used them to make some beautiful flowers that we are going to put in Kayden’s Garden.

Road Safety

Reception had the opportunity to learn about road safety around big lorries. We put on high-visability jackets to ensure the truck driver could see them. Miss Senior was our truck driver and she made sure her seat belt was on. The class walked passed the truck like they would at a crossing and made sure the driver could see them. If you can see the driver, the driver can see you. The class stood at Read more

Year 4 Shared Learning and Lunch

Year 4 invited their parents and carers into class to join in with a science experiment this morning. We all had a fantastic time investigating viscosity. First, we explored a range of different liquids and their properties. We then used our maths skills to measure accurately. After this, we planned and carried out our investigation by measuring the time taken for different liquids to travel down a ramp. We found out that honey and washing Read more

Year 6 Shared Lunch

What better way for parents to avoid the daily grind than come in to Year 6 to tackle ratio and proportion problems with their children. As part of our shared lunch, Year 6 and their families were given a series of clues 1-by-1 to help them recreate a pattern designed by Mr Hignett. With each clue, they had to decide how many counters they needed for each colour (e.g. 5% are orange) and how to Read more
