Minibeast Hunt
This week in school it is Eco Week. This afternoon in Willows we have been talking about what animals live in our school environment. We went on a minibeast hunt in Kayden’s Garden to see what we could find.
This week in school it is Eco Week. This afternoon in Willows we have been talking about what animals live in our school environment. We went on a minibeast hunt in Kayden’s Garden to see what we could find.
It is eco week in school and this afternoon we have been recycling plastic bottles, making them into beautiful flowers. We cut the bottom of the bottles off and then painted them to look like flowers.
We have had an amazing helper to count the batteries. Currently we have 2044 but we have plenty more to count, with batteries coming in all the time! Please don’t stop collecting! Please continue to bring them in. The more we get, the more we have a chance of winning some amazing prizes!
We have started our new topic ‘The scented garden’ this week. To begin we went into Kayden’s garden to plant some beans, we then looked at what plants need to help them to grow. On Thursday afternoon we went on a walk to Queen’s Park to see what flowers and tress we could see.
In Maths we have been working hard on fractions and are starting to learn about equivalent fractions. Today, to help with our initial understanding, we worked in pairs to build a fraction wall. We used strips of paper and started with 1 strip at the top to create a whole. We then folded paper to create sections according to the denominator from halves to twelfths. Year 5 will be recording the growth of Carrots, raddishs and spring onions in our science lessons. We haw changed some of the variables to see if plants need more water, light or warmth to grow. Here are some pictures of what we did.
We went into Kayden’s Garden this afternoon and became gardeners! First we had to take all of the weeds out of our planter and then we planted some rainbow carrot seeds and watered them. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they start to grow soon!
We enjoyed our music lesson this afternoon and listened to the song ‘Ganesh Is Fresh by MC Yogi’. We found the pulse in different ways such as clapping, stamping our feet and using cool dance moves. We identified different voices and instruments used in the song and gave impressions of the instruments. We had fun in the hall this morning taking part in the Maths Roadshow, working with our partners to complete some maths investigations. Some of them were very tricky but we didn’t give up!
