In Science this half-term, Year 2 have been learning about states of matter. This week we learnt what a mixture is. We then completed a mixture experiment to find out which substance (soap, washing up liquid or bubble bath) combined with water makes the best bubbles. We had lots of fun!
Although the weather stopped us having Sports Day outside we have still had lots of fun this morning completing it in the hall.
We had the best day at Smithills Farm for our school trip, we met lots of animals, rode a tractor, fed donkeys their breakfast, rode on some donkeys, held and stroked baby animals and watched cows get milked, we even got to play on the playground, we had so much fun and didn’t get too wet!
Today, Year 5 and 6 at St Luke’s had the opportunity to attend a careers fair. We had visitors from all different types of careers to talk to us about what they do, what qualifications they needed to gain, how they got into their job role and why they enjoy their job. This week in Art Club we took our inspiration from Roy Lichtenstein. Roy Lichtenstein is famous for using Ben-Day dots in his artwork, a technique used to create a pop art aesthetic. The children used carbon copy paper and tracing paper to transfer pictures of themselves onto their blank paper. We then used cotton buds to help us create the Ben-Day dot style. Today Year 5 and 6 had the opportunity to learn about different careers from industry professionals. The children had a great time learning about jobs such as photography, nursing, being a member of the clergy, a doctor and many more. The children have learnt so much and we have lots of new ideas and aspirations. Thank you to our amazing volunteers who made the morning so memorable.
Pine have been ‘hearing music in colour’! We’ve learnt about a condition called ‘Synthesia’ in which people can see colour when they hear music. We listened to numerous pieces of music, holding up colour cards to say what colour we thought of when we heard it. We then learnt about ‘graphic scores’ – recording on paper the colours we see when listening to music. Have a look at some of our attempts!
This week art club was on the same day as National Sea Turtle Day so we thought it would be a good idea to bring out the watercolours. The children carefully followed a draw along then used watercolours to paint their turtles. The children practised using different techniques such as wet on wet and wet on dry. The results are amazing, well done Art Club!
The Great Science Share is an annual event, aimed at inspiring children to share scientific questions with new audiences. Bowlee Park Primary School hosted the event. Each school had a group of 10 pupils’ conducting a range of different Science experiments. All of the pupils were superstars and we will look forward to taking part next year.
