Sports Journalist Donates Books to St Luke’s
Sports journalist, Gareth Walker, has donated a number of books to St. Luke’s after being impressed with the work and attitude of our children over the past few years. We always love welcoming Gareth to deliver his Literacy Kicks programme, a 6-session workshop looking at all the key skills needed to become a successful writer or journalist, as well as exploring the diverse range of sports and sportspeople that are in the public eye. St Luke’s Sports Leaders
Well done to all those children that have been chosen as part of our sports leaders. The children help with activities at lunchtimes and afterschool competitions. We also have our own sports journalist who will be updating our blog with all the sporting activities across school.

Staying Positive and Creativity
This afternoon we have looked at 2 new skills builders for this half term. We’ve had some great discussions around how we can stay positive and be creative. The children have given many examples of how they have achieved these things both in and out of school. See some of our action plans below which detail how we are aiming high and staying positive.

This half term we have been learning how to play hockey. We have been improving our passing and scoring skills
Mathematics
Fractions of amounts
Wow, what a great maths lesson today!!! The children used their prior knowledge of times and division tables to work out fractions of amounts. There was some fantastic mental maths happening and application of prior learning to help them to master the skill of calculating fractions of amounts. Well done everyone!!!

Educational Environment Recycling programme
This afternoon Year 5 have enjoyed a visit from the Educational Environment Recycling programme. This involved a fun and informative recycling lesson. The children learnt about the importance of recycling with practical examples of how to recycle well at home and the session included fun, interactive games and materials. Each child has received a certificate and bookmark and left school today thinking about how making small changes can have a huge impact on our environment.

Water Cycles
Our unit in English this half term is factual guided tours. The first tour we are going to write about is water around the world. For one of our experience days we learnt about the water cycle and created our own mini water cycles.
