This week, Year 1 began a new maths unit ‘Position and direction’. Our first lessons were on full, half and quarter turns, and left and right. Children enjoyed playing “Guess Who” with the database pictures they collated. We then used a program where they could create their own branching database, based around their interests. They did really well with this and could think about appropriate questions to create the database.
Children used our display to figure out where each Roman numeral should go on our clock, ready to use them on Monday in our “Time” topic.
During our Art lesson this week, we used our mood boards as inspiration to create new patterns using our rain forest sketching. We created the lines, shaded over them to transfer onto card and then used glue to create a batik effect. Next week we will use paint to complete our new patterns.
This week in ART Year 6 have commenced and new topic called Craft and design. Our first lesson was focusing on Photomontage. First, the children discussed key vocabulary linked to the new topic and explored different artists who used photomontage. This weeks forest school session was made even more fun with the addition of s’mores made on the fire. The children really enjoyed creating flower bombs using soil, clay and seeds. We played lots of team games and hunted for different insects. Year 5 had a great afternoon! Thank you Miss Brown.
This week in English we have been using the laptops to help us research our chosen animals ready to write a non chronological report. We have a wide range of animals chosen, from mudskippers to gorillas. The children have spent lots of time finding out interesting facts ready to create their reports.
Year 2 had a great morning visiting the Golden Mosque in Rochdale. They learnt so much and were fantastic at sharing what we have been learning in our RE lessons too.
We have been learning about properties of materials and this week we investigated which materials were absorbent and which materials were waterproof. We tested a range of different materials and recorded our answers into a table.
