This week in Science, Year 5 have been investigating ‘Can you clean dirty water?’
We began the week by learning the processes of separating mixtures. This included sieving, filtering and evaporating. We then worked in groups to complete a pre-investigation, in which we used our new knowledge to try to separate a mixture of water, flour, salt and lentils. This helped us to make predictions and decide on a method of how we would try to clean dirty water.
Today, with the gorgeous weather, we carried out our investigation outside. Our initial water was filled with, stones, sand, grit, soil and other dirt. After ‘cleaning our water’, we used an opalometer to check how clean it was, before recording the results and drawing conclusions to our investigation question.
