Today, Year 6 investigated ‘how to prevent heat from getting to an ice cube?’ Every child has worked extremely hard over the past three to four weeks focusing on our topic within Science ‘heat’. They’ve been exploring, discussing, researching and investigating how particles behave; thermal equilibrium; thermal conductors and thermal insulators. Today we discussed and explored many different materials: cotton; tin foil; paper; plastic; newspaper; card; tissue paper; cloths. The children had to plan and design how they would insulate their ice cube. The best group used tin foil and wrapped their ice cube within a layer, then they insulated both the inside and outside of the cup. After fifteen minutes their ice cube was still a solid and had not melted. Well done to all children throughout this unit.
