This week we have been learning about ‘Room on the Broom’.
On Monday, there was a letter left in our classroom with a bow. We were all very confused until we opened the letter. We read the letter together and found out that it was from the witch in ‘Room on the Broom’. She was asking for our help to make a lovely smelling potion.
After reading the story and finding out a little bit more about the witch, we decided to work hard to help her. This week we have been making potions using a variety of ingredients and writing a recipe so the witch can make it again.
To improve our potion for the witch, we have been learning about our senses. On Thursday afternoon, we discussed our 5 senses and completed some senses challenges.
To explore taste we tasted different foods such as cucumber, chocolate, carrots, banana. Some of us had to guess what we were eating and then we discussed the different tastes and textures.
To explore hearing, we listened carefully to different sounds and tried to work out which sound was which.
To explore the feeling sense, we had different objects in a feely bag. We then had to take it in turns to try and guess the objects.
To explore sight we played a memory game. We had a tray of objects we needed to use our eyes to look really carefully to work out which object was taken away.
Finally, to explore smell we had lots of different items to smell. They were covered up so we couldn’t see what was inside the bowl and we had to have a guess. There was lots of smelly things!
We have all enjoyed learning about ‘Room on the Broom’ and helping the witch. We hope the witch likes her potions we made her!
