Juniper had a visit to their classroom today from Sphere Science. Our visitor spoke to us about the use of uranium to generate electricity. They explained how it needs to be dug from the ground and separated – as there are 2 types of uranium and only one type is used to generate electricity. We carried out 5 different experiments that demonstrated different separating techniques. The children really enjoyed investigating how to separate the different materials provided. Our visitor explained to us that the 2 different types of uranium are separated using a process called ‘centrifuge’.
