Year 5 have had a great day at Springfield Park today. We started the day in the flower garden, studying some of the wild flowers. We also found some wildflower seeds to bring back to school and plant. We then worked in teams to do some orienteering around the park and learnt lots of interesting facts about bees at each stop. After lunch, our class had the opportunity to explore the bee garden. In here, we planted strawberry plants, observed the bug houses and looked in the pond. The highlight of the day for most was putting on the bee keeper suits and getting close to the amazing hives. We found out how calm the bees are, held the frames and learnt a lot about bees and why they are so important. Lots of children said they used to be scared of bees and aren’t any more. Some children have asked for a bee hive at school.
