Year 2, 5 and 6 had a fantastic day today with a focus on Islamic art. We were extremely lucky to have Razwan Ul-Haq, who is an artist, visit us. We started the day in the hall, where Razwan, shared some of his fantastic artwork with us and we discussed how it links to his religion of Islam. The children then had a go at creating their own piece of work focusing on writing the word Allah in Arabic. The children were very creative and produced some fabulous pieces of work.

Year 5 and 6 continued their learning about Islam throughout the day.

The children spent time at Forest School. We talked about how nature is like a picture that God has painted and where lots of people of different religions feel closer to God. The children created their own paints out of charcoal and mud then used them to write using Arabic calligraphy. After this, the children enjoyed a mint tea that had been made on the campfire. Razwan told us that in his culture, mint tea is important for several reasons. It is an opportunity to spend time together and be social and it is healthy.

The children also enjoyed an art workshop with Razwan, where they got to use the traditional bamboo pens and ink to write some Arabic letters. They also had an opportunity to speak to Razwan about his religion and ask any questions.

As well as this, the children took part in a maths and RE workshop. In this session, they looked at the patterns in Islamic art and had a go at creating their own patterns.

The children also took part in a poetry workshop. They read some poems from a famous Muslim poet, Rumi, and recreated their own versions using similes and metaphors.
