To practise our use of BODAMS to follow order of operations, Year 6 had a huge game of connect four.

The aim of the game was to connect four numbers on a 1-120 grid.

The rules of the game were to roll 3 numbers on a dice and then arrange them in any order the children liked. After that, the children had to insert any of the four operations into the calculation and also brackets wherever they chose. They then had to use BODMAS to calculate the answer to the calculation and place their counter on the number which they found.

This gave the children the opportunity to embed to concept of BODMAS, but to also think deeper about how they could manipulate the calculations used and the use of brackets to try and create a calculation that gave an answer which matched a number they needed to connect four.

Algebra has never been so competitive!
