This week at Forest School, Year 5 discussed things we may have done wrong in the past and how we moved on from them. The children discussed how sometimes they have arguments with people and say things that they don’t mean and then feel sorry afterwards. We used role play to model how to deal with conflict in these situations. We linked this to Ash Wednesday and discussed how it is a time for Christians to repent.

The children then enjoyed using the ash from the fire pit to make paint. The children were very creative and managed to make lots of different colour paints using the natural colours around them. They also made their own paintbrushes using natural resources. After this, they created some great artwork!

Some children also chose to practise using a bow saw to cut wood. Other children practised using the flint and steel to light their own small fire. One of the children commented that, ‘Fire reminds them of forgiveness because you burn something and can’t get it back, which is like letting go of something and forgetting about it’.

The staff enjoyed witnessing fantastic team work, perseverance and resilience.
