In Geography this week we have been learning the capital cities in the United Kingdom. Year 1 are starting a new writing unit based on the story ‘The 3 Little Pigs’. Today we explored the story by reading it, talking about the vocabulary (including nouns, verbs and adjectives) and discussed ideas of how we could improve the story using our fantastic adjective ideas. We then had lots of fun acting out the story in groups.
In art this week we talked about how a colour can be lots of different shades and hues. The children collected lots of things that are green. We discussed the shades of green and how we can use yellow and blue to make these shades. The children then made some handprints using different greens they had made.
Juniper have been working hard to create some spreadsheets this afternoon. We used the letters of the alphabet as our variables. The counting tool helped us to identify which vowel was used the most in our text and the frequency that the consonants were used.
This week Snowdrops have been looking at Diwali, we looked at how people celebrate the festival. We found that it is also known as the festival of light. We used resources in the classroom to make some beautiful, bright Rangoli pictures, and did some henna pictures too. We compared the Diwali festival to different festivals that we have been learning about and discussed the similarities and differences.
We loved looking at our beautiful flowers today and recreating the shapes from the petals and stems. There were some wonderful drawings and the children took their time to create these.
The Ethos team were invited to design decorations for a tree to be displayed in St Luke’s Church. The children decided that they wanted the tree to represent our school using our Christian values, the nativity and our school colours. They worked hard making the decorations. Year 6 have really enjoyed their music lessons for the last 8 weeks. They have been focusing on base, tone and slap. They have been working hard to produce a piece of music on the drums. The two songs they have been learning are ‘Up town funk you up and dance the night away’. Well done Year 6
Year 6 Rowan welcomed parents and family into our shared learning this morning. We were able to discuss our latest geography topic, Local Fieldwork, as well as the persuasive letters we wrote as part of our English unit.
