Year 4 were very lucky and got the chance to go and meet Santa at the Cherwell centre! We had lots of fun seeing the reindeers, Santa, Olaf and also meeting the Grinch! We laughed lots at the naughty elves who kept throwing snowballs at us and squirting us with water pistols. We decorated ginger bread men and baubles and had a drink of delicious hot chocolate.
In RE, the children have been thinking about angels. We discussed how Christians believe that angels are messengers of God. They studied various pieces of artwork which show angels, and discussed how they are portrayed and why. We also looked at the role angels played in the Christmas story. Children then created some fabulous nativity themed artwork.
During our RE lesson today, we looked at beliefs and practices amongst Christians in other parts of the world. We also thought about what was important to us at Christmas. Today in Design Technology we looked at where our food comes from in the Uk. We discussed the importance of eating seasonal food, as it reduces negative effects on the environment and also supports local farmers. Next, we researched what food is seasonal in the UK- which fruit only grows in the autumn, winter, spring and summer. Year 6 had a fantastic time at the church celebrating our Christingle. It was a lovely service and we really enjoyed the parents being there to join us. The children did really well and we are super proud of them all! A huge well done to all the speakers that spoke with confidence and pride.
Today we looked at different climates of the world and how this affects which fruit and vegetables grow in different countries. We then focused on fruits from Asia which included Bananas, Strawberries, Watermelon and Lychees and made Japanese Fruit Skewers. We used cutting skills to slice the fruit up and then carefully threaded it on to the skewer. Lastly, we brushed traditional Japanese plum sauce over the kebabs to make them even more tasty!
We have been working hard this week to write the Nativity story but from the Three Wise men’s perspective. We used ideas from our class story and from our Nativity to help to add extra detail and adjectives.
Year 5 and 6 walked to St Luke’s Church for their Christingle service this morning. They did a fantastic job and it was lovely to see so many parents coming to support their children too! The children spoke about what each part of the Christingle represents and did some beautiful singing. Some of our Year 5 children signed a prayer that they had created. Today we celebrated Xmas jumper day and enjoyed a delicious Xmas dinner. We had lots of fun!
