Shared learning – science is fun!

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our shared learning experience! We loved sharing our science lesson with you. We learnt all about absorbent and waterproof materials by carrying out an investigation. We used the curious caterpillar to plan our investigation and recorded the results in a table. We found out that materials like cotton wool are absorbent and bubble wrap is waterproof!     

European Day of languages

  We celebrated European Day of Language by answering the register in different languages, dancing to French music, learning how to count in French and we used Google maps to find different European countries and their landmarks. We love learning about different languages in Willows, we look forward to learning more French during French Fridays!

How can we separate river water into separate parts?

This afternoon Juniper have been carrying out a separating investigation. We used our knowledge of filtering and sieving to separate our river water back into pure substances. We used lots of equipment: filter paper, funnels, beakers, sieves. We discussed our ideas and planned our method. We finished with some fantastic results and made suggestions as to what went well and what we could improve in the investigation in the future.

Music

  This afternoon during our music session with Miss Taylor, we have been playing the instruments to form a band. The children had to listen carefully to know when it was their turn to play and what pitch to play at.

Donations to Heywood Food Bank

As part of the build up to our Harvest festival celebrations, the St. Luke’s community have pulled together to donate tins and foods for Heywood Food Bank.   Children and families have kindly brought donations into school over the last few weeks and have provided the food bank with valuable resources to help them to continue to support the local community.   This morning, Year 6 loaded the van before Mr Singleton delivered the donations, Read more

🤹‍♂️🎪Circus Sparks 🎪🤹‍♂️

Today, Year 2 were very lucky to take part in a special workshop called ‘Circus Sparks’ with Mick from Skylight Circus Arts. The aim of the sessions is to use circus skills to promote confidence in children. Gardening club ~ Nature pictures

This week we made nature pictures! They used leaves and other bits they found in the garden to create their masterpieces. To finish our final gardening club session for this half term, we played a few games of hide and seek. They loved it and some children got very creative with their hiding spaces! Thanks to all children who attended, we had lots of fun.

Oaks shared learning and lunch

Oaks had so much fun at their shared learning. They worked hard with an adult to find out if certain materials were absorbent. Then we went to lunch! It was so tasty. thank you to everyone that came…and well done to the children, they were so well behaved!

Yummy Stonehenge

Today we recreated Stonehenge. We looked at the different types of stones that make up Stonehenge and discussed how prehistoric man could have moved them without the invention of the wheel. Here are some pictures of our yummy recreations

Hello Yellow 2022

This week St Luke’s celebrated World Mental Health Day. Children came to school dressed in Yellow and raised money for YoungMinds. The children also took part in various activities throughout the day based on ‘The 5 Ways To Wellbeing’. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, we have raised £190.
