Last week, Year 5 made the most of the sun with a trip to Queen’s Park for our geography fieldwork. The children worked in pairs to find a suitable location for a picnic taking a number of factors into consideration, such as safety, suitable grounds, surrounding nature, weather etc. We took a route round the back of school, making a number of stops along the way. At each stop we decided if it was or Read more
We followed instructions to make paper windmills. We coloured in the nets for each part and then cut them out and stuck them together. We then make a working turbine at the top! We are super proud of our work. Please take a look!
Today Year 6 took a trip to Queen’s Park to carry out fieldwork linked to our DT topic – playgrounds. The children ‘investigated the location and usage of a local playground’. We looked at where the playground is situated within the park grounds? Is it easy to access? Who is the park aimed for and what equipment in available? This activity required the children to think more deeply about the provision and location of such Read more
This week in Science club the children had the opportunity to make lava lamps. What fun we had! The children changed the amount of oil and water they used to investigate whether it changed the end result. The children realised that in some it took a while for the oil and water to separate, if they children poured oil then water, it appeared to take a lot longer to separate. This week in Year 4 Maple we had a special information session all about Charcot Marie Tooth. Our NHS visitors provided lots of information and set up some fun activities which were designed to show how it feels to have this condition. The children loved the session and we were so Read more
This half term Maple are learning about ‘Mechanical Systems’ and designing and making a slingshot car. Today we have been working independently to produce an accurate, functioning car chassis and design a shape that is suitable for the project. We have discussed what air resistance is and attempted to reduce air resistance through the design of our shapes.
This week we have been learning about Minibeasts and have learnt lots about them. We worked at five different stations, the caterpillar station, the painting minibeasts station, the bug hotel station, the bug hunt station and the sorting station. In the caterpillar station we observed our caterpillar and drew our observations on a piece of paper. We talked lots about what they looked like and compared our caterpillars with other types. Outside we painted our Read more
This week we have been learning about different minibeasts. We have been learning to identify them, name them, notice the differences and similarities between them and recognise their microhabitats. On Thursday we went on a bug hunt around the path. We stopped at different locations, such as at Forrest school, to see what minibeasts we could find. We looked under stones and leaves, on the tree bark, in the air and in the mud. The Read more
Today we carried out an investigation to see what happens when you melt a solid. In the experiment we placed an ice cube in our hands and observed the effects. We found that when heat is added to a solid it turns into a liquid.
