Bee 🐝

This week we have been learning all about bees, we started by reading the story ‘The Bumble Bear’. We answered lots of questions about the bumble bear and talked with our partners about our favourite part of the story.   During continuous provision we have been creating our own bees using the paints and the creative resources. We painted the body of a bee under our faces to make it look like we were the Read more

New House academy visit

On Monday morning, Year 5 visited New House Academy. We spent the morning in the Design and Technology department where we learnt about the various aspects taught there and were able to see some of the creations made. We then got the chance to create our own work. Pine created badges and Juniper used saws to cut out a sign. We then had a drink and biscuits before heading back to school.

From solid to liquid

We competed an investigation to see how we change a solid to a liquid by melting. We were challenged to find a place outside that we could keep our ice cube to stop it melting quickly.  We found that by keeping it in our hands it melted quickly due to our boys heat. The best place to keep it was rolled up in our T-shirt then to go into the shade. to see what happens Read more

Sports Day

Today we have enjoyed having our parents, grandparents, family members and carers come to watch us in our first sports day. We took part in lots of different sports activities throughout the morning and came up with the top boys and girls who then had their very own race. The staff at school are very proud of all the children and it has been amazing to see so many family members and carers come to watch. Read more

Chocolate Rocks and Haribo Fossils

This half term Year 4 Maple are learning all about different types of rocks and fossils and today we used chocolate to help us remember the rock cycle. We used different types of chocolate (milk, white and dark) to represent the different layers in sedimentary rock. We then applied heat and pressure to the chocolate and watched as it began to go though metamorphosis and turn into metamorphic rock. We left our melted chocolate to Read more

Rocks made from chocolate!

During Science lessons we have been looking at the three different types of rocks; Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. We started our Science lesson this week by completing a ‘Kahoot’ quiz where we answered questions about what we already know as a recap. We then used chocolate to represent the different rocks and to help us explain the rock cycle. We started off with a mixture of white, dark and light chocolate to represent the sedimentary Read more

Making a slingshot car

The children in year 4 have made designs for a ‘Slingshot car.’ During D&T this week, we began to make the chassis of our cars. It was tricky measuring all the parts as we had to make sure our measurements were accurate or the parts wouldn’t fit together. We can’t wait to show you our cars when they are finished.

Science- Which mixture makes the best bubbles?

This week in Science, we have been learning all about mixtures. We investigated what would happen when we mixed a substance with water. The substances we mixed with water were; washing up liquid, hand soap and bubble bath. We used our fingers as bubble wands to see which mixture would make the best bubbles. We also used our mathematical skills to measure each substance and the water into each of the containers. We had lots Read more
