Heywood Great Science Share for Schools

The Great Science Share is an annual event, aimed at inspiring children to share scientific questions with new audiences. Harwood Park hosted the event and 6 schools’ including ours attended. Each school had a group of 8 pupils’ conducting a range of different Science experiments. Bubbles Bubbles Everywhere!

We went out onto the playground to see how windy it was for Geography. We found that the bubbles blew in all different directions and sometimes, the wind looked like it had stopped completely… with the bubbles floating up! We had so much fun 🙂

Year 6 transition and wellbeing event 2022

Today, both year 6 classes took a trip to Heywood Sports Village where they took part in lots of different activities to support their transition from primary to high school. The children looked at ways they can manage stress and anxiety leading up to high school but also whist they are they are there. Some of the ways they can do this is by talking to the school nurse, breathing exercises, yoga and mindful movements. Read more

Plant reproduction

Year 5 started their new science topic today: Reproductive Cycles! We were introduced to some new life in our classroom. We have baby caterpillars and giant triops eggs. We are looking forward to seeing how they grow and develop. We are very curious to find out more about them. The River Roch

During Geography lessons, Year 4 are learning about Rivers so we took a trip to see the River Roch. Whilst were we there, we conducted an investigation to look at the speed of the River. We were very excited that we were able to have our break time on Queen’s Park too.    

Class reward

As we have worked so hard this week (completing our SATs), we had a class reward! Emma’s Crazy Critters came into our class.  She bought Bearded Dragons, a snake, an iguana, baby rabbits, and geckos.  We were very brave and held these different critters or gave them a stroke.

Maths games

For Maths this week we went into the hall to complete lots of Maths activities.  We had lots of fun solving the problems, working with our partners.  Thank you Year 4 and Mrs Grindrod for making Maths so exciting.

Animals and insects

This half term we are looking at different types of animals and insects. When we arrived to school on Tuesday we had some caterpillars in our classroom. 🐛  We talked about the caterpillars and discussed what they might need to survive. After reading the story ‘Monkey Puzzle’, we knew that a caterpillar turns into a butterfly and we will be learning more about them in the next few weeks. Geography Fieldwork Trip

Maple have been down to the River Roch in Queen’s Park today to carry out an investigation into how fast the river was flowing. We positioned ourselves on the bridge and measured a distance of 10 metres. We then timed (in seconds) how long it took for the object in the water to reach us.
