Fabulous Fractions

This week Maple have been learning about fractions. We began by using fraction walls and our times tables to recognise equivalent fractions. We then used this knowledge to help to simplify fractions. Today we have been converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. We have used lots of mathematical vocabulary and are able to use words like improper, mixed number, denominator and numerator. See below for some examples of our work…    

People who help us

This week we have been learning about people who help us. The children have really enjoyed playing the role of doctor, applying bandages, giving injections and prescribing medicine to help their friends get better. We looked at the differences and similarities between doctors and nurses in the past and now and we learnt that hospitals used to be dirty and disorganised until Florence Nightingale changed the way they were run.

RNLI – Water safety

As part of our Geography topic ‘Coastlines’ we have been learning how to keep safe near water. We have been learning about the RNLI, we went outside to find facts about the RNLI and answered questions about safety at sea.  

Safer Internet Day

This afternoon Maple have been working hard to share our online experiences and think about how to use the internet safely. We began by completing a class quiz together about online safety. The children really impressed me with their knowledge of how to keep safe online and gave some fantastic explanations. All Fun and games – Safer internet day

On Tuesday it was safer internet day with the focus being ‘All fun and games – exploring respect and relationships online’. The digital leaders have been working hard preparing and practicing for an assembly. On Tuesday they did a fantastic job delivering an assembly to Year 3. They were so confident that they delivered the assembly again during the afternoon to their own classes.

Chinese New Year

This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We have discussed how Chinese New Year is celebrated and how it is similar and different to how we celebrate New Year. Throughout the week we have completed different Chinese New Year activities. We have made Chinese lanterns, dragon masks and dragon paper chains. Safer Internet Day 2022

Yesterday was Safer Internet Day 2022. In year six we discussed and explored many ways to keep safe on line. The day encouraged us to help make the internet a safer and a better place for us all, and especially for children and young people. -Ed, -ing and -ing, -Ed sententences

This week in grammar, Year 5 have been looking at how we can alter sentences that use more than 2 verbs. We looked at various images and chose a noun and 2 verbs, then created a simple ‘and’ sentence using the vocabulary we had chosen.
