In Reception this afternoon bluebells had two special visitors, Dina and Wally from dinosaur school. Wally brought us some super hero pictures and wanted to know how we could be a super kind friend. This week has celebrated Random Acts Of Kindness Day. Birch has recognised this by collecting items for Heywood’s Banardos charity shop. Thank you to all the children and parents/ careers who have donated. Miss Lomax will take these to Banardos at the end of the week.
This week Year 3 Birch were lucky enough to visit Dippy the Diplodocus in Rochdale. We travelled by bus into Rochdale centre, thinking about our road safety and stranger safety and all the staff were really impressed with the behaviour of the children. We looked at The Smartest Giant in Town by Julia Donaldson. We noticed that the Smartest Giant in town was very kind to all the animals in the story. We decided to be kind like the Giant by giving people around the school some scrummy treats! This week is online safety week. Year 3 Birch recognised this by reading “Tek The Modern Cave Boy” This book is designed to look like an iPad and teaches the children how and why spending too much time on technology computer games, can effect your wellbeing and relationships with family and friends. We followed this by safe searching the meaning of highlighted words in the book.
On Tuesday it was safer Internet day so to begin the day the digital leaders shared a PowerPoint and talked to us all about keeping safe online. We then read our class story: The story is about what happens when different fairy tale characters receive a laptop and learn a lesson in online safety. Year 3 have been looking at ways to stay safe online. We read the book Tek about a boy who spends too much time online and we discussed the dangers of over using the Internet. We then put our online safety skills to the test and safety searched some words using the online dictionary. Here are some pictures of our online safety champions.
Year 6 have been looking at lifestyle choices and how they affect us. We looked at drugs, smoking and alcohol and how they impact our bodies. The children created texts to give readers the information they need to make them aware of the dangers and how they can help themselves to stop.

During art week, Year 5 found about the ‘The Great Wave’ by Japanese artist, Hokusai. This week, we have worked hard to produce some paintings inspired by his art. The finished masterpieces have been proudly displayed in our classroom.
