we have absolutely LOVED Forest School this half term. For our final session with enjoyed s’mores! We are so lucky to experience this so many times in Year 1! It helps us to build our communication and listening skills as well as our Skills Builder focusing on team work! Thank you to Miss Brown for planning our sessions so well.
We have enjoyed Wiggle Worship this week. The children have enjoyed dancing with Wiggle, reading a Bible story, reflecting on the story and finishing with a prayer.
Today in science, Year 5 took part in an ice race. The children were placed into groups and had to race to free a toy car from a block of ice using only rock salt and table salt! The children had to see which type of salt performed better at melting the ice and would free their car the quickest. The children loved the experiment and had a lot of fun taking part. This week we have been celebrating black history month by reading the book “I love my hair”. We have been discussing different hair types and how they are all unique and beautiful. We discussed what we love about our own hair, what it looks like and how we look after it. This half term, Year 4 explored the vibrant world of Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes. We studied her bold, colourful artwork and discussed how she uses shape, pattern, and repetition to create movement and rhythm in her designs. In our Art lessons, we have been learning about the artist Romare Bearden. We explored a variety of his artistic styles and then created our own picture of a guitar, inspired by his connection to jazz music. Afterwards, we made an artist page all about Romare Bearden, including interesting facts about his life, images of his work, and coloured versions of some of his artwork.
During our recent art lessons, Year 1 have been using the primary colours to create secondary colours and using them to create pieces of art work and printing with them. The children have produced some wonderful pieces of art work!
During maths lessons this week, Year 1 have been working hard to using part whole models to begin adding numbers below 10. We have also wrote number sentences to match. The children have worked so hard to understand this tricky concept!
In Science, Year 1 have been learning about materials and their properties. Over the last 3 weeks, we have completed experiments to find out the answers to questions such as ‘Which materials float or sink?’, ‘Which materials absorb?’ and ‘Which materials are magnetic?’ The children have learnt the meaning of the following vocabulary, then completed these steps for each experiment. 1.
