Today in a Year 5 we have begun assembling our stuffed toys. We have learnt how to thread our needles and to begin joining the fabric together using a blanket stitch. The children have worked hard to cut out the material using templates they created. Next week we will finish our sewing and begin to stuff the toys.
Year 2 had so much fun dressing up with the theme ‘careers’ and they all looked amazing. They worked really hard to write a set of instructions on how to make the perfect… nurse, vet, firefighter, game designer, policer officer or astronaut, then completed a step by step drawing of this career. We have also been reading different stories about different careers.
In this lesson, children estimated and measured a range of objects, using metres as a unit of measurement. They measured things outside in the playground and around their classrooms. They then went into the hall and measured from one side to the other.
Year 2 Elm have made an amazing effort today to come to school dressed in clothes that represent a career they aspire to be in when they grow older. We wrote instructions how to make the perfect…. vet, astronaut, police officer or game designer! Everyone made a great effort and looked fantastic!

For World Book Day in Year 4, we had a fantastic time celebrating books with a unique twist! We dressed up as different characters inspired by various careers and job roles. It was a fun way to explore the many possibilities of what we can become when we grow up. This week St Luke’s celebrated world book day and careers week, with the theme of ‘raising aspirations’. The children have learnt about a number of careers through videos and books, including the ‘Little People Big Dreams’ books. We used this knowledge to create a careers list poem in our writing. We also came to school dressed with the same theme on Friday. Wow! The children looked incredible!
Year 5 Juniper celebrated World Book Day 2025 by dressing as various careers that we would aspire to do when we grow up. We had a wide selection of careers from astronauts to footballers, vets to dart players. All the children looked fabulous and enjoyed sharing why they had chosen the career they had. The staff of Juniper also got involved by turning the classroom into a hospital and dressing as nurses and surgeons!
In science this half term, Year 5 Juniper are learning all about electrical circuits. We have learnt about the different components that can be contained within a circuit, why each part is important and the job that each part carries out to make the circuit successful. As part of our careers week, Year 6 used our subject careers posters as inspiration when discussing future careers they’d like to pursue. We then also looked at the subjects that would support us on the journey to our chosen career, including how each subject would help. From this, we planned the information needed to write a quality CV and covering letter, ready for applying for a role.
