As part of our art topic, we have been looking at structures and how to create the perfect playground. We have had to ensure that our playgrounds are fun, safe, have something to climb on, something that moves and something to hide inside. We planned and sketched the equipment, giving reasons for each, before creating a floor plan and designing the landscaping needed to make our playgrounds look fun and interesting.
Today year 3 joined thousands of children across the uk to join in a poetry workshop. We created a nonsense poem and were lucky enough to perform our poem online
Today year 3 had a great day exploring Manchester University Museum.
We got to study taxidermy animals to help our understanding of scientific animal classifications
We were very lucky to be joined by Phoebe Bamford, a design engineer from Heywood, as part of our Careers Week. She took us through her earl education, the subjects she studied, what her job entails and some of the projects that she has been part of. The children were able to ask questions about her role, and how they could have a career in design engineering.
We have started our new Computer unit on Spreadsheets. We introduced what spreadsheets look like and used for. We then practised basic skills such as adding number and writing our name. After this we completed some calculations and watched how the spreadsheet worked out the answers.
Today, Pine have been discussing the difference between a fact and an opinion and understanding what biased reporting is. We know that we need to think carefully about what we read online or see on the television or hear on the radio. Sometimes we can believe what people say is always true, but we need to recognise that this just might be their opinion.
This afternoon year 3&4 got a visit from a scientist. He spoke with us about all the exciting careers we could have in science and taught us more about our topic ‘light and sound’. We completed some fun experiments too!
Reception were very excited this morning to have a secret reader. May’s Dad came to read all of Reception one of his favourite stories. We all really enjoyed listening to the story!
In English this morning, we started our new unit which is the book The Whale by Ethan and Vita Murrow. We had an experience lesson where we watched videos and researched information about different types of whales. We were put into focus groups where we created a poster about a specific whale and then we presented the information we had learnt to the rest of the class. This half term we have been learning about countries. We have been building different landmarks, taste testing different foods from different countries, reading stories from different countries, celebrating Holi, making our own pizzas and lots more! We have all enjoyed learning about different countries.
