Snowdrops loved having some parent visitors in class this week. First parents took part in an Early Years maths workshop before spending time with the children in their classroom. Children were able to confidently give their parents a tour of the classroom and parents joined in with some activities with the children. We explored how maths can be in all areas of the classroom and discussed ideas to help with maths at home.
The Ethos team were invited to design decorations for a tree to be displayed in St Luke’s Church. The children decided that they wanted the tree to represent our school using our Christian values, the nativity and our school colours. They worked hard making the decorations. During our Computing lessons this half term, Year 4 are learning how to use micro:bits. In our first lesson today, we have been practising how to connect the mirco:bits to the computer as well as programming them to follow a simple command.
This half term in Year 4 our DT topic is Structure. In our first lesson we have been exploring different frame structures to test which are the most stable using toothpicks and sweets. We made basic geometric structures and then created larger structures considering strength and stability.
This week, Year 2 Elm enjoyed their first forest school session. They went down to the forest school area and created nature pictures using our finger painting. During computing lessons this half term, Year 4 are focusing on using Micro:bits!we are working together to programme the micro:bits to complete a variety of instructions and commands. The children are showing off some very impressive computing skills! We had lots of fun during our first Forest school in Year 2. We completed lots of different activities. We did some finger painted, we went on a scavenger hunt in pairs, we explored forest school area, but hunting and even climbed some trees. We also wrote the quality of a friend on a leaf then hid it in the forest school area for the next class to find.
Year 5 Pine have been learning about retrofuturism this half term. We have studied different space imagery and learnt about the impact the space race had on different design elements. We have looked at, and taken inspiration from, Teis Albers ‘Moonwalk’, creating our own space drawings of how we think the future might look.
