Year 6 looked at how and why our pulse changes.

We wrote a hypothesis as to why our pulse may increase and decrease and what we thought we could do to help change this.

We also looked at resting heart rates and what they can tell us.

Year 6 decided to complete a sprint for as long as possible after recording their resting heart rate.

We decided that those with a lower resting heart rate should be able to sprint for longer as a lower resting heart rate indicates higher levels of fitness (we know this because a professional athlete would have a resting rate of around 40bpm).

We recorded the data as a class and created scatter graphs with a line of best fit to be able to approximate levels of fitness depending on a child’s resting heart rate.
