Welcome to the Stone Age

This week we have been exploring our new topic Prehistoric Britain. We became archaeologists and student ancient artefacts. We have also used our arts and craft skills to create art work inspired by Stone henge. Here are some pictures of our learning.

Wiggle Worship

Wiggle came to see us this week in Reception! We have been learning about our Bible and the Christian values. The Christian value this half term is Respect. Wiggle brought with him the story of Martha and Mary to teach us about respect. We loved hearing the story then we have been dancing and singing to the wiggle worship songs! It was lots of fun!  

Marvellous Maths

Juniper have been working hard this week on their place value knowledge. We’ve worked with some very large numbers and are able to read and write numbers to one million. We’ve used place value grids and counters to represent given numbers and we’ve made some of our own. We’ve challenged ourselves to partition numbers with more than 6 digits and have used counters to model these numbers.    

Social Reading

This afternoon, the year 1 children spent some time completing social reading. The children chose a partner and a book of their choice, to sit and read together. The children were very grown up. They sat beautifully taking turns to read and discuss the books. I 

A visit from Touchstones

Today we had a visit from Touchstones museum. It was a brilliant introduction to our History topic for this half term – Romans. We had a discussion about where the Romans originated from which led on to us looking at the vexillum which is a flag used by the Roman army. Forest School

Today Year 5 Juniper had our first forest school session of the half term. The children discussed our value for this half term ‘Respect’ and created acrostic poems. We had fun freeze framing our summer activities as well as doing a bug and tree hunt and playing hide and seek.

History – Industrial Revolution

Year 6 Rowan have started their new topic in History – Industrial Revolution. The children have been looking at the main features of a Victorian society, mainly focusing on the class system during the Victorian Era. The children used a world map to locate and label countries that were part of the British Empire. The children are looking forward to learning more about the Industrial Revolution and how it changed Britain.

Roman workshop

Year 4 Hawthorn have had a fantastic morning! Touchstones came into our school to teach us all about the Romans. We learnt facts about the Romans and we created our own veillums. Touchstones have also left an artefacts box with us to have a look at over the next few weeks. Check out our battle faces!

Year 4 Maple

Year 4 Maple have settled in brilliantly! Our class text for our English lessons this half term is The BFG By Roald Dahl so we started the school Year off with some fun BFG activities. We created dream catchers, drew pictures of the BFG and we also looked at some of the funny words the BFG uses and thought about synonyms for them.
