Where does our food go?

During Science this week, we looked at the digestive system. We thought it was very funny creating our own model with Mrs Downing. We could talk about the functions of the mouth, saliva, the esophagus, the stomach, the small intestine, the large intestine, the rectum and the anus. We are all also able to explain what ‘enzymes’ are. Did you know the digestive system starts a soon as we smell food?

Today we have been learning about how and why Christian’s use music in worship. We looked at how Christian’s used music in different places and compared it with when we use it in school at our collective worship. Then, we listened to different traditional pieces of music that people use to worship and thought about what moods and emotions go with the music. We then studied the words of the hymn ‘Here I am to Read more

Year 1 money

During maths this week, year 1 Willows have been learning to recognise money and count coins. They have done some problem solving with coins, looked at real money and used coins to pay for items during shop role play. We’ve had lots of fun!

Science club

In science club we made walking rainbows using paper towels and food colouring. The children made predications and ensured they used scientific vocabulary to do so. The children worked in groups to plan and carry out their experiment. The children were fascinated to hear the science behind the experiment: The water moves up the paper towels through a process called capillary action. The paper towel is made from fibers and the water is able to Read more

Bubble Experiment

In Science this half-term, Year 2 have been learning about states of matter. This week we learnt what a mixture is. We then completed a mixture experiment to find out which substance (soap, washing up liquid or bubble bath) combined with water makes the best bubbles. We had lots of fun!

Scarf session

Today Jess from the Life Education Centre came to visit Reception. Jess talked about the different body parts that we have and discussed ways we can keep our bodies healthy. Jess introduced the lovely Harold to us and showed us the special bag he brought the show us all! In the bag was items that we need to keep our bodies clean and healthy. Reception were all able to say what each item was used Read more

Great Science Share 2023 Heywood

The Great Science Share is an annual event, aimed at inspiring children to share scientific questions with new audiences. Harwood Park hosted the event and 5 schools’ including ours attended. Each school had a group of 8 pupils’ conducting a range of different Science experiments. We had a great time and of the pupils were superstars!! We will look forward to taking part next year.

SCARF Workshop

Juniper had a visit from Scarf today and took part in a workshop all about ‘Friends’. We carried out some activities that involved us making some important decisions. We discussed what ‘peer pressure’ is and how we can deal with certain situations that may arise with our friends. We learnt some excellent ways of ‘saying no’ in a constructive way, if we feel we are being pressurised into doing something we do not want to Read more
