Ethos team Collective Worship

This morning, the ethos team led their first collective worship. They did a fantastic job! The children helped to plan the whole thing. They chose to retell the story of Mary and Martha using drama. The told us that it everybody has different personalities and different roles but that it is important to respect everyone. The session finished with a beautiful prayer reflecting on trying not to lose our temper and give people space when Read more

Co-operative museum visit

Year 6 are starting a new topic all about Industrial Revolution. Today, we had a visitor from Rochdale Pioneer Museum (Cat), who delivered a workshop all about our new topic. The children were fully immersed in Rochdale during the Industrial Revolution. They focused on working conditions, food and living conditions. Some children acted as the Schofield family (Frank, Gertrude, Francis and Tommy) who lived and worked on a farm in the middle of Rochdale. The children Read more

They had a range of items to print with including polystyrene sheets, leaves, wool, toy cogs and bubble wrap. They could choose to make their work abstract or figurative (something recognisable.)

Kaden’s Garden

This half term in RE we have been reflecting on and discussing reasons why people do or do not believe in God. Today our focus was to explain why to many Christians the natural world is evidence for a belief in God. We explored Kaden’s garden and the children went on a mission to find something beautiful and well designed in the natural world around them. The children came up with lots of brilliant reasons Read more

Coding week in Year 5

Year 5 have been working hard in their computing lessons this half term. We have learnt some new vocabulary and thinking about algorithms, abstraction and decomposition in computer science. The children have used Purple Mash to code a simple traffic light system. We also used a football game and thought about how the coding can be broken down into smaller steps. After this, we thought about designing a more complicated game and wrote a plan Read more

Texture pictures-Frottage

We created different textures on paper by using a Frottage rubbing technique based on the art work created by artist Max Ernst. We used different colours and a variety of coloured paper to create the rubbings around the classroom, collecting as many different textures as we could. We then tore the paper into different shapes to create the final flower pictures.

Owl Babies

This week we have read the story Owl Babies. The children used different materials to create their own owl picture. It was lots of fun and everyone was really creative! We have spoken about how an owl would feel and discussed words to describe owls. The children chose soft materials to stick on their pictures. Well done Bluebells, the owl pictures look brilliant!

Chemical reactions or physical changes?

This week in science, both year 6 classes have been looking at chemical reactions and have been consolidating their knowledge on physical changes and what they are. The children observed 3 different chemical reactions: burning paper, lighting a candle and the volcano explosion. From this, the children were able to spot the 5 signs of a chemical change. Well done to both classes.

Developing our own narrative in Art

During Art, we have been looking at finding meanings within a painting. Children have been looking at vocabulary such as tone, line, colour, pattern and shape. Children used descriptive language to tell the story in various paintings they observed. Then, children painted a picture that related to a story or theme such as respect. Well done to all children who managed to relate their paintings to our Christian value – respect.

Heaven – what is it and what does it look like to me?

Year 6 have been working extremely well throughout our RE topic, ‘what do religions say to us when life gets hard?’ Within this we have been looking at life after death and Heaven. In our lesson today, we have explored Heaven and what it looks like. We have to decide how to rate good and bad deeds out of 10 and use our scales to decipher wether some good deeds out weigh the bad Read more
