This week we have read the story Owl babies. The children used different materials to create their own owl picture in the creative area during their time in continuous provision. We spoke about how an owl would feel and chose words to describe it. The children chose soft feathers to stick on their pictures. We also discussed where owls live and what they like to eat.
Year 5 have been finding out all about ‘European Languages Day’ this afternoon. This day has been celebrated since 2001, to help people understand how useful it can be to speak more than one language. In Europe, there are 24 different spoken languages. Year 5 have had a go at saying hello and goodbye in just 4 of them!
For Coding week we have been using Purple Mash to create a program using a given design. We planned an algorithm that included collision detection. We used ‘The Princess and the frog’ to create a set of algorithms. We needed to move the princess to the right then when the Princess got to the frog she would stop and then turn the frog into a prince. We used the collision detection button so that when Read more
Today we looked at coding and what coding means! We loved trying to make the fish move in the correct direction. Some of us drew the coding blocks, to indicate where the fish would move and what blocks to click.
Earlier this week, Year 1 had a lovely surprise! They got to join reception at a Science show. It was all about materials, just like our Science topic. The children got to test out materials and make predictions. At the end they watched a mini explosion and it made them jump but they loved it!
Year 1 Oaks read the bible story “Jesus’ Special Friends” and talked about what makes a good friend. We used fruit to represent our Christian values and what we value in a friendship. The blueberries represented kindness, strawberries represented love and so on. At the end we sprinkled ‘happiness’ onto our kebabs (in the form of sprinkles obviously) which the children loved and shared our kebabs with our friend. Well done Oaks. You are such Read more
This morning we have taken part in an amazing science show. We learnt lots of new things about materials and the different things they can do. A few of us came up to the front to help the scientist carry out his experiments. We all especially loved the exploding experiment in the end, it made us jump!
The ethos team from key stage 2 had their very first meeting today. We discussed what the ethos team will do and that they have been chosen because they demonstrate our Christian values well. Their first task was to decorate some prayer cushions to show to the other classes as examples. Our prayer cushions are going to be used outdoors when children want to find a quiet space to sit and reflect or pray.
During our topic on Particles and Chemical Reactions, we looked at setting up an experiment to test how long it takes for sugar to dissolve in water. We had a control group and then planned how we could incorporate different variables to change and investigate how to speed up or slow down the dissolving process. The class then decided on which variable each group would choose and collated the results at the end.
