A fantastic 1st day back for Year 5! We have started to identify the features and shapes of a text in English, ready to write our own informative non-chronological report about an animal. Year 4 Hawthorn have worked extremely hard this week telling the time. They have been recapping telling the time to 5 and 1 minute. We have then started to convert time from a 12 hour clock to a 24 hour clock. We enjoyed some sun yesterday whilst using chalk to draw our clocks. Well done year 4, you should be very proud of yourselves!
Year 1 Willows had such fun during their time at Forest School. With the forest school teachers, Miss Steele and Mr Tomkins, the children worked really hard to listen to instructions to keep themselves safe. Last week we made some amazing pictures using oil pastels and black card. We tried to recreate what we thought the skyline of what London might’ve looked like during the Great Fire of London. They used oil pastels in reds, oranges and yellows to blend together to create the fire effect. I think they have done an amazing job! Well done, Year 1! x
This afternoon we celebrated the end of our ‘Bright Lights, Big City’ topic and ‘Queen’s Handbag’ book by holding a Queen’s afternoon tea party. We listened to the national anthem, waved our Union Jack flacks and tried scones with strawberry jam and cream. They were delicious!
We had an amazing time for our final forest school session in year 5 today! Quotes from the children included: “That was the best day ever!” and “Can we do it all again?” We started off the session completing a teamwork task. We have spent our Topic lesson this afternoon exploring the Greek Artefacts topic box that we have rented from Touchstones Museum. We have had some brilliant discussions about what the artefacts were, what they were used for and what materials they were made from.
This week we have been reading the story ‘The Three Little Pigs’, we found out that the little pigs made houses from straw, sticks and bricks. This week we have been celebrating ‘Outdoor Classroom Day’ and thinking about how nature can improve our mental health. The whole school have had a taster session of Forest School. Everyone enjoyed being outside in nature and we have done a range of activities outdoors, despite the rainy weather. Some children planted new trees, some created minibeast houses, some hunted for minibeasts, some found magic sticks and everyone enjoyed a tasty snack around the fire Read more
