Year 6 have been looking Arvada amours landmarks across London which were targeted or damaged during the Blitz. We looked out how cityscapes take the landmarks and place them side by side to create a silhouette of a city. Maple’s new topic this half term is ‘Misty Mountains, Winding Rivers’. We have been imagining what it would be like to stand at the foot of a towering mountain or sit by a fast-flowing river. The children have used their senses to think about what they would see, hear and feel. There have been some amazing descriptions written.
This week, Year 5 have made an excellent start to their new topic ‘Stargazers’ by learning about the planets. This afternoon we have done a lovely art lesson where the children used colour to make season trees. They thought about what the trees would look like at each time of the year and created beautiful pictures to represent each season. I love the winter ones the best with the glittery snow! Our new topic this half term is called Street detectives. We went on a virtual tour around Heywood using Google Earth. We looked at different places in Heywood and talked about places that are not in Heywood as well. We then worked in groups to sort pictures of different places that are ‘In Heywood’ and ‘Not in Heywood’.
