Ring of fire
Today, year 3 located and plotted the different volcanos that form the ring of fire. They used maps and coordinates to help them. They learnt that 75% of the world’s active volcanos are located here.

Layers of the Earth 🌍
This week year 3 have been learning about the layers of the Earth. After finding out the names for last weeks homework, today we found out more information about each layer, including temperatures, sizes and what they were made up of. We then used our knowledge to help us to create a model of the Earth. We then cut through the centre to reveal the layers.

Do you want to build a…. nest or a den?
We went up to Kayden’s garden to make dens and nests for the woodland creatures that might come sniffing round in the garden during the night! We had lots of fun finding sticks of the right length to make appropriate dens and nests. It was great to see that the children worked together to create these and they had lots of fun!

How is a volcano formed?
This week we have been learning about how a volcano erupts and how it forms a cone shape. We began by learning about tectonic plates and how they move. We then learnt new vocabulary with actions for the parts of a volcano and created a chant to help us learn the process of the volcano.

Earth’s Layers
Year 3 have been learning about the different layers of the Earth. To help show their learning, we created scaled models of each layer. Sand is the crust, this is the thinnest layer. Yellow is the mantle. Orange is the outer core and red is the inner core. Here are some pictures of our work.

Colour Mixing
This week during Arts week, we have been focusing on colour mixing. Firstly, we observed mixing the colours in paint pockets. We all had a turn to see what would happen if we mixed two colours together. We then went in the outdoor area and experimented with colour mixing in a large area. We then practised colour mixing inside on palettes. We learnt what a palette was and enjoyed mixing colours in a small area. Read more

Eco Council Reminder
It is KS1’s turn this half term so please bring your wellies in each Tuesday if you attend Eco club! We will be getting out into the school grounds and with the weather like it is, we WILL be getting muddy boots so wellies and a spare plastic bag to put them in is advisable. Thank you, Mrs Nuttall x

Andy Warhol-Pop Art
This week we have been learning about Andy Warhol. To begin we went outside to find out lots of facts about Warhol. We know is birth name was Andrew Warhola and he pioneered a new art movement called Pop Art. Art week – Georgia O’Keefe
This week has been Art week at St Luke’s. Year 3 have been learning about the Artist Georgia O’Keefe and looking at her style and techniques to create a piece of Art in the same style.
