Blood-inspired Abstract Art

Year 6 studied and evaluated different pieces of abstract art. We learnt that there were no real set rules to abstract art and that we had lots of freedom when creating our own pieces.   We looked at brushstrokes and techniques used in famous pieces, as well as how artists use colours, shapes, direction and patterns. We then created our own abstract art which was inspired by our Blood Heart topic.

Negative Numbers Investigation

Instructions

In our English lessons this week, we have been learning about instructions. We had to follow Mrs Murphy’s instructions to make chocolate crispy cakes and then we wrote our own instructions explaining what to do. We were then allowed to eat the chocolate crispy cakes because Mrs Murphy was so impressed with our writing.. They were very yummy!!

Mr Fox’s Tea Party

Today was the day that we have been waiting for – the day of Mr Fox’s woodland tea party! We came to school with our wellies on and just couldn’t wait for it to be the afternoon so that we could walk to Queen’s Park and find Mr Fox. Challenge 3

Challenge 3: For safer internet day we planned, prepared and delivered a whole school assembly. We made sure ever class completed an lesson all about staying safe online. We also updated our Digital leader display to remind children and adults how to keep safe when going online.

Maths – Area of triangles

In Maths, we looked at how to create a formula to help us to calculate the area of a triangle.   We investigated a variety of shapes and then focused on rectangles.   We looked at cutting a triangle out of rectangles and noted what we noticed about the area of the shape we had left.   We realised that the area left was the exact same area as the triangle we had cut out. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

This half-term the children have been reading ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roahl Dahl and re-writing their own versions using ‘The Write Stuff’. The children have watched clips of both the old and new film versions of the book to support their ideas before writing various sections such as a Character description of August Gloop and a setting description of ‘The Chocolate room’. Woodland Crowns

This week we have been invited to Mr Fox’s woodland tea party. We decided to make woodland crowns to wear on the day. We gathered natural materials from outside and carefully arranged them to make a crown.

Ghost Story Immersive Room

To help inspire our ghost stories, we took a walk through a haunted house.   We were able to investigate the setting and see how characters would react as they ventured through the house.   We noticed lots of elements to the setting we had never before come across and even had monsters and ghosts jump out at us! It has given us lots of ideas to take back to class with us.  

Hot Seating

Over the last few days in our English lessons, we have been learning about the difference between a question and a statement.
