During French week we had lots of fun and learnt lots of new things. We tasted French food, the croissants were very yummy! We learnt about the famous landmarks in France. Our favourite was the Eiffel Tower. We tried to make it using bricks in the construction area and we used match sticks in the creative area. Oaks worked hard splitting a whole number into two parts, preparing for addition work and number bonds to 10 later next week. Well done, everyone.
Over the last week, Year 6 have been looking at a range of elements linked to algebra. Through the use of manipulatives and practical activities, we have developed our contextual understanding of a number of areas: substituting values into a formula; balancing expressions; expressing number problems algebraically; nth term and sequences.
Children in Year 5 took part in a writing workshop with author Yvonne Weatherhead. The children enjoyed the experience and look forward to working with Yvonne in the future on her next book!
Willows went in the Immersive Room to set the scene for our new class text – Little Red Riding Hood. We went for a walk through the forest where Little Red Riding Hood met the wolf and had to think about what we could see, hear and what feelings we had.
During French week the children in Buttercups tasted lots of French food. We tasted crepes, baguettes, pain au chocolat and croissants. The children decided that the pain au chocolat were the best!
Children learned about castles in France during French week! To promote recycling, we asked children to bring in materials such as boxes and tissue paper rolls to build these castles. We worked as a team to create the castles and some castles had working drawbridges. We were very proud of these!
We had lots of fun in French week completing lots of different activities: role play, food tasting, fact hunts about France, Sunflowers in the style of Van Gogh. Here are a couple of pictures from our week.
During French week we created Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ using pastels to create the background and then sketched Carcassonne’s castle to put in to the foreground. We hope you like them 😄😁😬
