Last half term, year 4 created some wonderful batik art work inspired by William Morris. they took their time to create their art work from their own mood boards using pictures from the rainforest. We spoke a lot about careers work like this could lead too as we have lots of wonderful creative minds and artists in the making!
This half term we are focusing on striking and field games and target games. We have been learning to catch a ball after one bounce, strike a ball off a tee, bowl overarm with a straight arm and stop the ball as a wicket keeper. This week Year 1 completed their phonics screening check. The children have worked so hard all year and have made phenomenal progress. We are incredibly proud of them and decided they deserved a little treat.
We had lots of fun in forest school last week. To link with our new science topic ‘Animals’, we created animals with clay and natural materials, searched for mini-beasts, completed mud paintings and had lots of fun exploring and climbing trees. It was lovely to see such an improvement in their design skills and their crafting techniques, from when we did something similar back in the Autumn term.
Year 5 have enjoyed a day out at the cinema and a round of crazy golf. Everyone had a great time and especially enjoyed their pizza and chips afterwards. Their behaviour throughout the day was absolutely amazing and they really did do St Luke’s proud!
Well done to Heidi in Year 6 on a fantastic season with Stockport County Ladies U12s. Heidi and her team have managed to win the league, the cup and a tournament this season. We are all really proud of you Heidi.
Well done to St. Luke’s rounders team who came first out of all Heywood schools. After winning 2 and drawing 1 in the group, they managed to win the final against a very good St. Joseph’s team, Jacob scoring 2 rounders and Will managing to hit the winning rounder with the last ball of the tournament. The whole team represented school incredibly well through their behaviour and sportsmanship.
Today in RE, we discussed how Christians believe that God created the world and all of the fantastic things you can find in nature. We went down to our forest school area and carried out a nature hunt. We talked about which amazing nature find was our favourite and why.
Today we had a fantastic first forest church session with Reverend Kirsty and Reverend Kirsten. The session was after school and parents joined in too. The children and their families explored the area looking for things that reminded them of their life journey. Everyone then created some fabulous artwork. This afternoon Year 5 enjoyed a visit to Heywood library. We had fun exploring the books and taking time out to enjoy some reading for pleasure. The children have each checked out a book that they are able to enjoy in school. Well done Year 5 for setting such a good example for our school.
