Elm Shared Learning and Lunch

Wow! What a fantastic morning Year 2 had with their shared learning and lunch. The children and parents were split into groups and set a task to make a hanging solar system. War Kennings

Juniper have been busy today in English writing some kennings. A kenning is a figure of speech, or two-word phrase used in the place of a one-word noun to describe something. We have been writing our kennings about Remembrance day and war. Please enjoy reading some of our poems and looking at the beautiful origami poppies we have all made.

French day 2022

Year 6 participated in French day. We had a delicious French breakfast, learnt lots of new vocabulary, learnt and sang lots of songs and played many French games. The children also listened to Goldilocks and the Three Bears in French and also used a dictionary to translate the story back into English. Armistice Day 2022

Today, both year 6 classes visited the cenotaph in Heywood to pay our respects for Armistice Day. The children read out a lovely poem in remembrance of all we have lost fighting in the wars. The children placed a wreath down with a beautiful message to all the fallen soldiers and their families. Both classes were very respectful and behaved in a beautiful manner. Well done Year 6.

Year 4 had a very exciting day today. They finally got to meet their friend that they have been speaking to through letters. They were very excited at the start of the day although a little nervous about meeting somebody new. A trip to the Jungle

This half term Year 4 will be writing their own stories that are inspired by the book ‘The Jungle book.’ Yesterday we took a trip to the Jungle and used a ‘Fantastic’ sheet to write down things we could hear, see, smell, touch and we also thought about how we felt in the Jungle.  

French day

Year 4 Hawthorn had an amazing day last Thursday on French day. We started the day with a french breakfast whilst watching a french cartoon. Let there be light!

As part of our Design and technology work this half term, Year 5 will be designing and creating their own electronic Christmas cards. Last week we learnt all about the history of the greetings card and the Penny Black – the worlds first postage stamp. This week we discovered how to construct our own functional series circuits. The children had lots of fun and were very excited when their circuits lit up.

Zog

This week we have been learning about the story Zog. We have discussed the characters in the story, predicted what we think might happen next and thought about how Zog never gives up and always tries his hardest. Today, we have been to dragon school.
