-Ed, -ing and -ing, -Ed sententences
This week in grammar, Year 5 have been looking at how we can alter sentences that use more than 2 verbs. We looked at various images and chose a noun and 2 verbs, then created a simple ‘and’ sentence using the vocabulary we had chosen. What did the Anglo-Saxons believe?
This half-term we have been learning about life as an Anglo-Saxon. During this lesson our focus was ‘What do the Anglo-Saxons believe?’ We learnt that the Anglo-Saxons were originally pagans, which means they believed in many gods and that they were later converted to Christianity with help from a monk named Augustine. What is a magnet?
Year 5 have started their new science topic studying magnetism. We have discussed the difference between contact and non-contact forces. We thought about the history of magnets and what they are used for. We then investigated what makes magnets attract and repel. We enjoyed using bar magnets, paper clips and compasses to investigate this.

Sentence work
Maple have been learning about main and subordinate clauses this morning. We worked hard on identifying each one and moving the clauses around to make new sentences. We tried really hard to punctuate our sentences correctly, and even linked them to our cross curricular writing about ‘The Water Cycle’.

Great Wall of China

Today, a group of children from Years 2-6, received their training to become student ‘Mental Health Champions’ for St Luke’s. They spent their morning completing a workshop delivered by One Goal, who are a child centred health and well-being company that specialise in helping primary schools improve mental health and wellbeing.
