Separating mixtures at Forest School

Year 5 had a fabulous time at forest school this week. First we thought about how science is all around us and we thought about the amazing job that scientists do. We thought about environmental scientists and the jobs they do to protect our planet. We then explored the area and invented tools that would help environmental scientists. After this some children created their own mixtures using natural resources and then challenged each other to Read more

Persuasive Letters

Maple have been learning about the art of persuasion in English! We began by reading a letter addressed to David Walliams, which was trying to convince him to visit our school and help us with our reading. We worked really hard to pick out all of the persuasive language and persuasive features of the letter. We organised the text and matched it with the correct features.

Christopher Columbus

In history, we have been leaving about Christopher Columbus.  We had to ‘explore’ the playground to find out facts about his life. We had to search for pictures of his ship to help answer questions.  We worked really well together to find all of the answers.

🐶🎁The Present 🎁🐶

Since returning to school, Year 5 have been producing some fantastic writing based on an animated clip named ‘The present’. So far in our writing, a computer game obsessed Ben, has just received a special gift from his mum. When Ben opens the gift he is surprised to find a puppy. To help us with our vocabulary, including boomtastics and fantastics, we have had various experience sessions. We played computer games and outdoor games and Read more

Reflection and Symmetry

In Art today, the children had to trace an imagine from our current English book ‘ The Incredible Book Eating Boy’ into one square of a quadrant, they then continued flipping and tracing into the next square of the quadrant until the ‘flip pattern’ was complete. The results looked amazing!

Negative Numbers!

Maple have been working hard with negative numbers in maths today. We worked in groups to order our negative numbers. We even made human number lines, positioning ourselves in the correct order. We spent some time calculating the differences between some positive and negative numbers and completed some fantastic work in our books.

Forest Formulations

In Year 5, we have been learning about formulations. We have learnt that a formulation is when a specific amount of substances are mixed together to create a product such as foods and fuels. We created used formulation to create a chocolate cake mixture. We then filled oranges with this mixture and baked them on a campfire.

Owl day

This morning we went outside to collect leaves during our forest school lesson. We then used these leaves to create an owl picture. Our new story for English is ‘The owl who was afraid of the dark’ so for our first English lesson we had an experience day where we could hold a barn owl and stroke an Eagle Owl. The barn owl was tiny but he was the oldest of the two owls and Read more
